Samburu National Reserve, Maasai Game Reserve Mara
The Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river, on the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve in Northern Kenya. It is 350 kilometers away from Nairobi and ranges in altitude from 800 to 1230m above sea level. The reserve is rich in wildlife with an abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five).
You will have an excellent chance of seeing lion, leopard, cheetah, and elephant. Spectacular rocky outcrops, wonderful Domas palms and the shaded Ewaso Nyiro River, the life source for the Samburu reserve, make this reserve scenic.
Check in at Wilson Airport‚ for your early morning flight to Samburu which is North of Kenya. Upon arrival, guests are transferred to their camp is. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Ewaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebra and the Beisa Oryx.
Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we’re off in pursuit of the Elephants, Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp or lodge.
Enjoy an early pre- breakfast game drive, guests are transferred to the Oryx Airstrip for their morning flight from Samburu to Maasai Mara and land at Keekorok airstrip. Transfer to your lodge and afternoon game drives to follow afterwards. You will arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and have lunch and later embark on an afternoon game drive at the most famous game reserve.
Embark on a full day game drive in the famous Maasai Mara national reserve, in search of the famous big five and the many plains game that roam the vast plains. This is Africa’s greatest Wildlife Reserve; famous for the Big 5, the Big Cats and the Great Wildebeest migration and the Maasai People. Additionally, the Maasai Mara ecosystem holds one of the highest lion densities in the world. It is a remarkable experience.
